Lots To Enjoy At Women’s Clinic But One Negative Was Less Time With Players

Kentucky fan Sheena Wethington enjoys interacting with players at the UK Women’s Clinic.

With the renovations happening at Memorial Coliseum, the Kentucky Basketball Women’s Clinic was moved to Rupp Arena Sunday. Because of this change the clinic had to start at the conclusion of the women’s volleyball game that went into five sets and that cut into our time with the players and coaches.

After registration, you could buy the pre-signed basketballs. However, they had the players sitting at tables to sign other items. I am not sure of this decision because now they are signing double the amount of items (if you were smart enough to bring extra items to be signed — I did not). This was also the only interaction that you got with the players.

Justin Edwards has a fun personality! While in the autograph line, I noticed he had a nice bling necklace with his initials on it. I asked him where he got his necklace.

“Goodwill,” he said quickly.

Ugonna Onyenso also had the same necklace that said “Ugo.” I asked where he got his necklace. “Best Buy.”

So ladies (and gentlemen) you can get a necklace just like theirs at Goodwill and Best Buy.  You are welcome!

All Aaron Bradshaw wants to do is play basketball. Every time I saw him on the court he had a basketball in his hand. I know we are all waiting to see him on the court.  He is ready too!

They did invite some of the players’ moms to the clinic. Reed Sheppard, Tre Mitchell, DJ Wagner, Kareem Watkins and Justin Edwards all had moms in attendance. They were stationed in the locker room to talk with the ladies of BBN.

DJ Wagner’s and Kareem Watkins’ mom (yes, they have the same mom) plans to be at all the games traveling back and forth from New Jersey.

Unfortunately, Coach Cal sent the players home early because they got back to Lexington late from the Blue/White game in Northern Kentucky Saturday night. Therefore, the team picture that normally happens every year with the players was replaced with a team picture with the coaches.

Us women fans usually enjoy getting to hang out/take selfies with the players after the team picture concludes.

I am sure it will be back in Memorial Coliseum next year and we all hope that this allows for more time for interaction with the players!

  1. Nice write up of the Clinic. One of the cooler aspects of the Clinic was having the catered food in the Lexus Club with the assistant coaches. The players wandered in and got food and hung out as they ate. Unfortunately, staying in that area caused me to miss the locker room visit with the moms. Considering, as Coach Cal said, they threw the Clinic together in a couple of weeks (because he was spending night and day trying to resolve the Big Z issue), I thought they did a fairly good job.
