Have you ever been driving down the road and you see a car with a wobbly tire? The tire is almost flat and wobbling back and forth. One might say if the tire doesn’t get fixed soon it is going to fall off rendering the car useless.
The above sums up the state of Kentucky football going into the Tennessee game. If certain areas don’t get cleaned up the wheel is going to fall off along with the fans left on board.
After game 1 we were assured issues would be addressed and fixed. After game 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 the same assurances on fixing issues were issued. It is now game 8 and the question is will these issues remain after four quarters against Tennessee.
— Inexcusable penalties (personal fouls, etc.)
— Dropped passes, poor run routes
— Bonehead penalties (holding, offsides, etc.)
— Passes way over receivers heads or not in vicinity of any player
It was evident Saturday night that the issues have been addressed. With the exception of two illegal procedure calls (back to back) the inexcusable and bonehead penalties were absent. The team seemed more disciplined on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Devin Leary had his best performance as a Wildcat. It also helps when his receivers are catching the ball, which they were doing. The offense seemed to get into a flow which allowed the confidence of Leary to rise as the game progressed.
It was evident Tennessee’s plan was to shut down the run and let Kentucky pass all night. Kentucky responded with the best offensive performance of the year. It just wasn’t enough. Questionable calls and poor execution on fourth down plays cost points on the board. In the end Kentucky came up six points short.
Remember the tire that was wobbly. It didn’t get fixed, it got plugged. Which means it is good for a few more miles. Still shaky but there is a chance to get it fixed before it is completely flat. Some are getting out of the car due to the shakiness but others are going to stay in until the end.
It is almost November and the Cats are not bowl eligible yet. They travel to Mississippi State next week. They haven’t won there since 2009. Then Alabama, South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., and ending with Louisville at Louisville. There should be at least one win in this list.
Hang on fans, there is a service station ahead.

Maybe SC if we catch them on an off night. I don’t see any other wins.
Cats are favored at Mississippi State
Stoops has raised the bar! 7-5 or 6-6 is no longer good enough, is it? Who wants to go to a crappy and cold Tenn. BOWL Game? We want 8-4, or 9-3 and a Florida Bowl Game!
He has raised bar to level I never thought it would be at UK to where "only" winning 7 or 8 games is just considered ordinary
