Led by an individual title by Emmie Underwood, the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons finished in 18th place at Saturday’s KHSAA Class 1A State Cross Country Meet in Lexington.
Underwood, a seventh grader, passed Beechwood’s Lily Parke at the two-mile mark and won going away, completing the 3.1-mile course at the Kentucky Horse Park in 19:11. Parke, last year’s runner-up, was relegated to second place again in 19:27.
Underwood is the third individual girls’ champion from Fort Campbell and the first since Sylvia Moreno in 1990.
Another seventh grader – Makayla Finn – was the second Lady Falcon across the line in 59th place in 23:04, beating her personal best time by 18 seconds.
Ava Roberts was 174th in 26:49, followed by Sophia Thompson in 189th place (27:54); and Thea McDonald in 200th (28:51).
Fort Campbell’s 513 points were nine behind 17th place Gallatin County.
