Kentucky basketball officially tipped off their season on Monday against New Mexico State. Though the final score was 86-46, the Wildcats were handed a real test in the first 20 minutes.

They led by just eight at half time, not shooting the ball well and giving up points at the defensive end. But after halftime adjustments were made, Kentucky came out on fire in the second half and their defense was sensational.

Kentucky out-scored the Aggies by 32 to put the game away. Rob Dillingham led all scorers with 17, while D.J. Wagner (13), Justin Edwards (12) Reed Sheppard (12) and Antonio Reeves (11) joined him in double figures.

The Wildcats forced NMSU into 18 turnovers, while coughing up the ball just six times themselves. Kentucky is being forced into a small-ball lineup while they have a few of their big men out, but that seemed to play largely into their favor on Monday night. The Wildcats will retake the court on Friday against Texas A&M Commerce.
