For several years my grandson in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., has told me about getting “salted” and I never totally understood what he meant. However, that changed last week when I visited Salted Wellness, a new business in Danville.
Owner Renea Ellis explained she was looking for alternative treatments for her son who has Down Syndrome when she discovered halotherapy — which is also known as salt therapy. It started in eastern Europe over 100 years ago and is now known as an effective benefit for respiratory and skin conditions.
Ellis said halotherapy is a safe, all natural alternative that enhances the natural healing process.
My daughter and grandchildren get “salted” often and after one session, I’m a believer. Ellis and Kirsten Carter showed me the vitality booth and infrared sauna before I went into the salt room (another customer came in to use the vitality booth and raved about how much it had helped her.”
Ellis explained the key was to relax and breathe deeply to let the “salt” do its work, I settled into my chair as Ellis dimmed the lights and turned on soft music. I think I was asleep five minutes into my 25-minute session. It might have been the most relaxed and stress free feeling I have had in many, many years.
The salt room can accommodate four adults or two adults/four kids. There is no set age restriction.
I plan to go back to use the infrared sauna. I have always been a sauna fan but never knew it could help reduce pain, increase detoxification and improve my cardiovascular system until Ellis told me.
“I sought out the safest, most efficient commercial sauna with color light therapy to use at Salted Wellness,” Ellis said.

Honestly, I knew nothing about color light therapy and how it can temporarily reduce swelling, relieve pain, decrease inflammation, accelerate open wound healing and reduce overall recovery after medical or surgical procedures.
The vitality booth offers red light therapy that is known for its anti-aging results and Lord knows I can definitely use that. Ellis said it can also help reduce inflammation.
Ellis and Carter can tell you a lot more about what is best for you. I just know being “salted” totally relaxed me and definitely helped my sinus issues I had been having.
