Not sure if Alabama coach Nick Sabin really believes everything he said but he certainly praised Kentucky’s passing game Wednesday on the SEC coaches teleconference despite the issues UK has had in that area this season.

He called quarterback Devin Leary and receivers Dane Key and Barion Town all “really good players” for UK.

“I think they’ve played well all year long. They’ve got a very diverse group. Barion Brown is obviously a really good player. He’s a really fast guy. He’s a good returner as well,” Saban said.

Brown earned a scholarship offer from Alabama during his Nashville high school career. Some even speculated he might transfer to Alabama after his brilliant 2022 freshman season.

“Devin Leary is tough, competitive, and a good passer. Does a great job of managing and doing what he needs to do to make their offense work, run and pass,” Saban said.

“The guy’s a really smart player and has done a great job of executing everything I’ve seen all year long.”

Saban obviously has seen the games where Leary and the passing attack did not click but going into Saturday’s game at Kentucky the veteran coach knows all the right things to say.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops doesn’t have to use coach-speak to explain what he thinks about Saban.

“It’s truly amazing what he’s done and you have to give a lot of credit to him. I’m sure he’d be the first one to tell you that there’s a lot of people who’ve sacrificed for a long time to help in that support but he is truly the best and has done it at a high level for a long time so it’s just pretty remarkable what he’s done,” Stoops said.

“Myself, coming up through the ranks and watching him. He’s always been good to my family and I just have a lot of respect for him.”
