The preseason accolades continue to roll in for two-time defending 2nd Region champion Lyon County. A day after the Lyons were named the top team in the Courier-Journal’s preseason coaches poll, two Lyons have been named among the Top 30 players in the state by the Courier-Journal.

The Top 30 players were chosen based on a statewide vote of nearly 100 basketball coaches.

While not a unanimous choice, according to the Courier-Journal rankings, Travis Perry received an overwhelming majority of first-place votes in the poll. Perry got 84 of the 96 first-place votes and is ranked as the best player in the state in the survey.

That honor comes just two days after the state’s all-time leading scorer announced that he would be attending the University of Kentucky. Perry averaged 31.6 points per game last season.

Kade Unseld, of Warren Central, was second on the list, while Malachi Moreno, of Great Crossing was third.

Perry’s teammate Brady Shoulders also made the list of the Top 30 players in the state. Shoulders, one of the ‘Three Amigos’ with Perry and Jack Reddick, came in at 28th on the list. He averaged a double-double last season with 17.9 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
