Emmie Underwood capped her record-breaking cross country season with a First Team All-State selection by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Fort Campbell seventh grader joined Sylvia Moreno and Kitty Davidson as the only Lady Falcons to win an individual state championship. Her state title last month was the first for a Fort Campbell runner since the girls’ distance was expanded to 5000 meters in 1993.
Underwood didn’t finish outside the top five in any event in 2023 and won six invitational races in addition to the region championship.
Underwood also claimed the school record time during the season and finished with seven of the top 10 fastest times run at Fort Campbell.
