Frank Boone has a region title, top-15 state finish, and a 1986 team state championship on his resume from his days at Trigg County High School.

But runners never go away. If they can get around a course, they return as coaches or even participants in races.

Boone has been an assistant coach for the Logan County High School cross country team for the past few years.

This fall, he was part of a history-making run for the girls’ program at Logan County. Their finish at the Class 2A Region 1 Meet was good enough to qualify them for the school’s first-ever appearance at the state cross country meet in Lexington.

The story wasn’t Logan County’s 23rd-place finish. It was the fact they started the race and gave the program stepping stones to greater things down the road. Another part of the story is the color of Frank’s fingernails.
