John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats survived a frightening upset bid from the Saint Joseph Hawks on Monday night, capturing their fourth victory of the season by a score of 96-88 in overtime. Though it wasn’t pretty, it’s probably more due to Saint Joseph being a quality team than Kentucky struggling. After all, the Wildcats have played pretty well to start the year with their only loss coming narrowly to the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks.
DJ Wagner and Tre Mitchell each scored 22 points while Antonio Reeves had 20. Reed Sheppard went scoreless with just one shot attempt, but continued to make an impact on the game by forcing the Hawks into five turnovers and dishing out four assists while grabbing as many rebounds. He was a team-best PLUS 16.
Kentucky has a few days off for the holiday before they host Marshall on Friday at Rupp Arena. Tip-off for Friday night’s game is set for 6 PM ET with television coverage of the game airing on the SEC Network.
