Trigg Boys Drop Scrimmage to Visiting Storm

With a week until it opens the regular season at Hopkinsville, the Trigg County boys’ basketball team continued preseason preparations with a scrimmage on Tuesday against visiting Hopkins County Central.

Hopkins Central prevailed 56-42 with the scoreboard resetting over four ten-minute quarters, including a 15-5 mark in the decisive third frame.  Drake Skeen led all scorers for the Storm with 13, joined in double figures by Trigg’s Davaree Gude with 12, and JoShaun Bridges with 11.

Lake Sumner and Skeen each scored five points in the opening quarter to overcome seven from Gude and lead 16-13.  Jhaden Vaughn scored all five of his points in the second quarter for Trigg, but Skeen added four, and Hopkins Central edged the Wildcats 13-12 for a 29-25 halftime advantage.

Skeen and Davonyae Butcher combined for nine points for the Storm, and they outscored the Wildcats 15-5 in the third despite five more for Gude.  Bridges was seven of eight from the free-throw line in the fourth for Trigg, but the Storm maintained a double-digit advantage behind four points each from Britain Phipps and Karon Hopson.

The Wildcats will try to snap a 14-game losing streak against the Tigers when they head to Hopkinsville on Tuesday.  Hopkins County Central will also open on Tuesday with a visit from Muhlenberg County.
