With most of last year’s squad returning this season, the Lyon County Lady Lyons will not only look to improve upon last year’s 12-16 record, but will look to become contenders in both the 5th District and the regional All A Classic.
Lyon has seven of its top eight scorers back from last year as Dawn Cotham begins her third year as Lady Lyon head coach.
Some of that group is young, but has already enjoyed tremendous success at the middle school level and figures to just get better and better on the varsity team.
Freshmen Trinity Taylor and Piper Cotham were the top scorers for the Lady Lyons as eighth graders a year ago.
Taylor, a 5-foot-10 forward, scored 11.8 points and grabbed 6.6 rebounds a contest.
Cotham, the team’s point guard, got 8.6 points a contest.
Expect both players to put up even more points this year as the Lady Lyons look to push the pace on offense.

Another freshman, 5-8 forward Courtney Collins, scored 7.1 points and pulled down a team-best 8.4 rebounds a contest.
Lyon does have some talented upperclassmen to go with that young talent, with seniors Lexi Holland and Gracen Wynn leading the way along with junior Lilly Perry.
The 5-9 Holland can help with the ball-handling. She netted 7.6 points a game last season.
The 5-10 Wynn has scoring potential, but her career has been hampered by injury. She scored 6.9 points a contest last season but played in only 10 games. A healthy Wynn is also a big threat from behind the 3-point arc.
Perry, a 5-6 guard, has a wealth of experience and is a versatile performer. She scored 5.9 points a contest last year.
Jenna Coursey, a 5-10 sophomore, adds some inside depth for the Lady Lyons along with 5-7 freshman Cayelyn Downing.

While Lyon is looking to take the next step in 2023-24, that could be difficult in the 5th District, where both Crittenden County and Livingston Central also appear to be on the rise. (The Lady Lyons last held the district championship trophy in 2016.)
Those same teams also pose challenges in the 2nd Region All A Classic tournament in January as well.
The Lady Lyons will get the new season underway Tuesday with a home date against Webster County. The next night, Lyon will face Graves County in the Marshall County Hoopfest in Draffenville.
