With the exit of its top-three scorers after last season’s 10-17 campaign, the Trigg County girls’ basketball team will look to a host of young players to plug holes and remain competitive in the 5th District in 2023-24.

Three seniors provided the bulk of the Lady Wildcats’ scoring last season, led by Olivia Noffsinger with almost 16 points per game.  Noffsinger connected on a team-high 66 three-pointers while also collecting over five rebounds per outing.

Second-leading scorer Kara Hyde was also dangerous from beyond the arc, and led the squad with 7.5 rebounds per game.  Audrey Alexander helped out on the boards with six rebounds and was third on the team with almost seven points per contest.  In addition to the expected departures, Lilian McKelvey and Ashlynn Koch, the program’s leading returning rebounders, opted not to return this season for the Lady Wildcats.

Second-year head coach Greg Stephens will only have four upperclassmen on the roster, highlighted by seniors Evonna McGee and Landi Rogers.  McGee averaged 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds a year ago while Rogers chipped in just over three points per game.

Junior Reese Bush will be asked to expand her role after appearing in 20 games last season, along with sophomores Alivia Norwood and Kharma Turner.  Ten 8th-graders and freshmen round out the roster, with Coach Stephens singling out freshman Gabby McGee as a player expected to contribute.

The Lady Wildcats will open the season on Tuesday with a visit from Calloway County, before starting district play at Crittenden County on December 8.  The Lady Rockets have won the last six in the series dating back to 2020 when Trigg prevailed 48-40 to win the first of two-straight district titles.
