The Todd County Central Lady Rebel are now 2-0 against the 3rd Region to start the 2023-2024 basketball season. However, Friday night’s game against McLean County played out in reverse from Tuesday night’s win over Apollo, with the Lady Rebels building the early lead and holding off a Lady Cougar rally to take a 59-48 win.

Todd County Central used their defensive pressure and long-range shooting to build a big early lead. Abby Williams, Alexis Taylor, and Zalaya Smith combined to knock down four shots from behind the arc in the opening quarter as the Lady Rebels took a 17-4 lead.

Jamya Kay decided to join the three-point party in the second quarter. Kay hit two shots from behind the line, giving the Lady Rebels six in the opening half as they extended the lead to 31-13 at the break.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Cougars scored four quick points to cut the lead to 31-17 and prompting a time-out call from Coach Nick Suttle. That would slow the rally for the time being and Todd County Central ended the third quarter holding a 44-30 lead.

While it was the Lady Rebels using the 3-point shot in the opening half, it was the long bomb that brought McLean County back into the game in the second half. After knocking down two in the third quarter, the Lady Cougars would hit four more in the final quarter as they closed to within 8 points on a couple of occasions.

But, when the Lady Rebels needed a couple of baskets, they did not ask Alexa how to get them, rather they asked Alexis to get them. Alexis Taylor scored an old-fashioned three-point play off the block and then added another basket in close and that would be the end of the rally as the Lady Rebels turned back the rally and went on to take the 11-point win.

Taylor finished the night with 24 points. Abby Williams added 14 and Jamya Kay also hit double-figures with 11.

Sarah Miller led McLean County with 17 points, including five made three-pointers. Ava Lannum was the other Lady Cougar to reach double-figures with 10.

Todd County Central (2-0) is back in action Tuesday night when they host Creek Wood at 6pm.
