Union’s First Win Drops Caldwell’s Girls to 0-2

Union County’s girls picked up their first win of the season Friday night, pulling away in the second half for a 48-32 triumph at Caldwell County.

Paige Steward had 12 points for the Bravettes, who scored the first seven points of the night and never trailed.

Medeline Thomas had 12 points for the Lady Tigers. But Caldwell struggled to score with one of their leading scorers, Brylee Butts, skipping the contest.

The Lady Tigers trailed just 7-5 after one quarter. But Caldwell connected on just one field goal in the second period as Union took an 18-9 lead to halftime.

Caldwell was still as close as 25-16 midway through the third period. However, Union closed the period with nine straight points to take a 34-16 advantage to the final 8 minutes.

The Bravettes’ biggest lead was 20 points on three different occasions in the fourth quarter.

Lillian Goodloe added nine points for Union.

Caldwell struggled against Union’s full-court pressure, turning the ball over 31 times in the contest.

The Bravettes won despite 24 miscues of their own.

Union has taken seven straight from Caldwell and now leads the all-time series 32-21.

The Lady Tigers last beat the Bravettes in January of 2015.

Caldwell’s girls will play again on Tuesday when they take on Crittenden County in the first game of a varsity doubleheader at Butler Gym in downtown Princeton. Caldwell’s guys will take on Trigg County in the late game that night.
