University Heights Academy had ten players get in the scorebook led by a game-high 19 points for Elijah Walton to run past Page, TN 85-58 on Saturday at the Cayce Mill Classic at Hopkins County High School.
The Blazers took an early lead after Que Quarles converted an and-1 for an 8-7 score and never looked back, leading 22-12 after the first quarter. Walton added eight points in the first frame and UHA took its first double-digit advantage on Tylin George’s pull-up jumper inside the final minute.
UHA built a 16-point cushion after points on back-to-back possessions by Walton. After a bucket in the paint, Walton’s steal and dunk made it 39-23 before Page closed the half with a three-pointer.
A pair of free throws by Andrew Cucullu, part of an eight-point quarter and a team-leading 16-point performance, pulled Page to within nine at 51-42 with 2:48 left in the third. But UHA answered with a three-point play by George and the Blazers hit one of two free throws after a technical foul on the Page bench for a four-point trip that stretched the advantage back to 13.
The Blazers continued to pull away in the fourth to pick up a second win in as many tries, outscoring Page 21-13 behind nine combined points from Walton and George.
Quarles finished with 18 and George had 15 to join Walton in double figures for UHA.
The Blazers will welcome Murray High to Hopkinsville on Tuesday looking to win their first three games for the first time since a 7-0 start to the 2018-19 season.
