Hopkinsville’s Antonio Williams posted a double-double on Saturday to help the Tigers pull away from Ohio County 72-54 at the Farmers Bank & Trust Tip-Off Classic at Muhlenberg County.
The Tigers avenged an 11-point loss to the Eagles last season to improve to 2-0. Ohio County suffered its first loss of the season to slip to 1-1.
Williams got started with eight first-quarter points, but Carter Young tossed in ten for the Eagles and the teams were tied at 14-14 after the opening frame.
Williams and Young continued to battle in the second, with Williams adding nine to finish with 17 points at halftime. Young scored eight, but the rest of the Eagles only combined for 3 to allow Hopkinsville to take a six-point edge into the break.
The Tigers put the clamps on Young after halftime, with his five third-quarter points all he could muster in the second half. DeReion Dudley scored seven, and Deavery Ramey and Keontae Radford each added four for a ten-point Hoptown cushion with a quarter to play.
Williams closed the show with eight more points and finished the game with 14 rebounds. Dudley was five of six from the free throw line in the fourth to finish with 20 and help the Tigers tack on eight points to the final margin.
Hopkinsville will look to make it three in a row to start the season when McCracken County visits Tiger Gym on Tuesday. The Mustangs have won three of the last four in the series, including a five-point victory in Paducah last season.
