
The Caldwell County wrestling team’s season-opening trip to Ohio County on Saturday was a successful one.
The Tigers turned in an undefeated day in the dual tournament, finishing off the event by beating host Ohio County 48-32 for the championship.
Caldwell won six matches in the finals by pin — Andre Carter at 113 pounds, Logan Brown at 126, Cofy Walls at 138, Timothy Nichols at 150, Cale Goodwin at 165 and Cole Sherill at 215.
Caldwell’s day included a 78-0 rout of Bardstown
Picking up pins in that match were Brown at 132, Walls at 144, Nichols at 150, Bradley Asher at 157, Goodwin at 165, Cooper Mobley at 215 and Sherill at 285.
The Tigers defeated Central Hardin 59-21.
Caldwell won three of those matches by pin — Brown at 126, Donovan Rogers at 144 and Nichols at 150.
Caldwell rolled past Greenwood 66-9.
Goodwin won by pin at 175 and Sherill picked up a pin at 215.
The Tigers blitzed South Warren 71-0.
Pins in that match were recorded by Justin Klidzejs at 106, Elijah Kirby at 120 and Walls at 138.
Caldwell routed Warren Central 78-0.
Those matches were all forfeits except for Mobley winning by pinfall at 285.
Those team wins all put Caldwell in the championship match against the host school, with the Tigers finishing off the tournament championship with another win.
Coming up this weekend, the Tiger wrestlers will take part in dual tournament action at Benton, Illinois.
Looking ahead, the annual Armstrong Tiger Classic is set for Saturday, Dec. 16, at the CAB gym.
