The Todd County Central Lady Rebels welcomed Creek Wood, TN to Elkton on Tuesday with two wins in two tries to start the season, but a cold first half left too deep a hole to climb out of in a 54-42 defeat.
Alexis Taylor accounted for all of the Lady Rebels’ scoring in the first quarter with seven points. Karleigh Stevenson led the Red Hawks with five, and Abby Baker and Laila Downs-Darden combined for eight for a nine-point cushion.
Todd Central again couldn’t break single digits in the second, and Stevenson tossed in six more to lead Creek Wood to a 29-16 halftime advantage.
Abby Williams found the scoring touch after the break, chipping in five points to help Todd Central outscore the Red Hawks 12-8. She followed with six in the fourth, but Downs-Darden closed the show with ten of her game-high 16 points, including an eight-for-eight performance at the free-throw line, to turn back any thoughts of a Lady Rebel comeback.
Williams led the Lady Rebels with 15, 11 in the second half, followed by Taylor with 14.
Todd Central will look to get back on track on Saturday with an afternoon trip to Monroe County. The Lady Falcons have won the last six in the series, including a 57-50 victory last year in Elkton.
