2023 All-WKC Football First Team Announced

Paducah Tilghman and Class 2A state champion Mayfield accounted for over half of the selections to the 2023 All-Western Kentucky Conference First Team.

Players were recognized Wednesday night at the All-WKC banquet hosted by Graves County.

Paducah Tilghman led the way with eight selections to the First Team, which is made up of 24 players from the 18 WKC schools regardless of class.

State champion Mayfield had six players named to the First Team, while Union County, Graves County, and McCracken County each had three, and Madisonville had one.

Offense

QB – Jack James (Paducah Tilghman) – Threw for a school-record 4,019 yards and 56 touchdowns.

RB – Jarren Johnson (Union County) – Ran for 2,091 yards, 33 touchdowns and threw six touchdown passes.

RB – Jutorious Starks (Mayfield) – Ran for nearly 2,000 yards and 37 touchdowns for the Cardinals.

WR – Martels Carter (Paducah Tilghman) – 43 receptions, 1,066 yards and 10 touchdowns as well as 214 rushing yards and three TDs

WR – Lincoln Acree (Graves County) – 64 catches for 921 yards and 10 touchdowns

WR – Cooper Falconite (McCracken County) – 63 catches for 1,085 yards and 14 touchdowns

OL – Michael Bailey (Madisonville) – Maroons averaged 470 yards of offense and 41 points a game.

OL – Tomago Daniels (Paducah Tilghman) – Tilghman averaged 441 yards of offense and 49 points a game.

OL – Brody Phelps (McCracken County) – Mustangs averaged 309 yards of offense and 27 points a game.

OL – Caiden Broadus (Union County) – Braves averaged 343 yards of offense and 32 points a game.

OL – Wyatt Medlin (Graves County) – Eagles had a balanced attack, averaging 150 yards on the ground and 150 yards through the air in addition to 26 points a game.

K – Shep Esper (Paducah Tilghman) – 98 of 98 on extra points – second most PATs in a season in state history and second-longest consecutive PAT streak in state history.

Defense

DL – Tre Jackson (Mayfield) – 66 tackles, five sacks, and two fumble recoveries

DL – Jacob Sutton (Graves County) – 55 tackles, 19 for loss, and 11 quarterback sacks.

DL – Frankie Nutt (McCracken County) – 76 tackles, 15.5 for loss, and 10 quarterback sacks.

DL – NyYon Fitzgerald (Paducah Tilghman) – 66 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and three sacks. One interception, which was returned for a touchdown

LB – Ian Williams (Mayfield) – 112 tackles, 3.5 sacks,

LB – Waylon Wheatley (Union County) – 106 tackles, six for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery

LB – Jimmy Mooney (Paducah Tilghman) – 90 tackles, six for loss, and two quarterback sacks

DB – Xavier Biggers (Mayfield) – Three interceptions, including a pick-six, and 45 tackles.

DB – Martels Carter (Paducah Tilghman) – Only player selected on both sides of the football. 44 tackles, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.

DB – Darionte Ragsdale (Paducah Tilghman) – 17 tackles, two for loss, three interceptions and one fumble recovery.

DB – Braden Morris (Mayfield) – Three interceptions and 57 tackles.

P – Lincoln Suiter (Mayfield) – 79 of 83 on PATS and 7 of 11 field goals including the game-winner in the state semifinals.
