Fast Start Powers Hoptown Past Caldwell 89-51

DeReion Dudley had 22 points while Antonio Williams had 19 points and 12 rebounds as Hopkinsville blew past Caldwell County 89-51 Thursday night at Hoptown’s Tiger Gym.

A big first half put Hopkinsville (3-1) in control. The black-and-orange Tigers scored the first 16 points of the night while running out to 34-14 lead after one quarter. By halftime, the margin was 61-31.

Hoptown hit the 35-point mercy rule for a running clock midway through the third period.

Hopkinsville led by as much as 41 points in the final frame on the way to the 38-point triumph.

Jarae Leavell added 13 points and Deavery Ramey had 12 for Hoptown.

The homestanding Tigers buried 10 3-pointers in the win.

Hopkinsville’s 61 points in the first half were the most ever by a Caldwell opponent in one half. Hoptown’s 34 points in the first quarter tied the mark for most points in one period against Caldwell.

Jaydarius Wilson was the only Caldwell player to score in double figures. He had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Hopkinsville has now beaten Caldwell 20 straight times dating back to 2008. Hoptown leads the all-time series 76-26.

Hopkinsville will play again on Tuesday when it goes to Logan County.

Caldwell will travel to Graves County on Tuesday.
