Now that was the way to put some tough history to bed. The Christian County held Henderson County scoreless in overtime as the Lady Colonels made a 2nd Region statement Thursday night with a 63-52 win in Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
The Lady Colonels survived cool shooting at the free throw line and some turnover issues in picking up the win, which was Christian County’s first over Henderson County since the 2018 2nd Region tournament and just the second win over the Lady Colonels from the north since January of 2007.
The Christian County defense had a huge part in the win. While Christian County had 23 turnovers, the Lady Colonel defense also forced Henderson County into 23 turnovers, including some costly ones late in regulation and early in the extra period.

But it was Christian County that made all the big plays and the right plays down the stretch of regulation and into the overtime.
The game was closely contested and hard-fought throughout. With both teams having to really work to get looks at the basket, Henderson County was able to take an early 9-4 lead. Christian County would battle back to trim the margin to 13-11 after the first eight minutes.
Neither team would lead by more than three in the second quarter. There would be two ties and five lead changes as Christian County went into the locker room with a 24-23 halftime lead.
The physical battle continued into the third quarter. Henderson County took a three-point lead only to see Christian County battle back to take a five-point lead of their own. Henderson then fought back to close to within 39-38 heading into the fourth.

Henderson County looked to have things going in its favor midway through the final quarter of regulation, taking a 47-43 lead. The northern Lady Colonels were still leading 50-47 as the game entered the final minute. Anaysia Bagwell evened the score at 50-50 with an off-balance three with 51.3 seconds left.
Christian County got the ball back and took the lead when Lazarie Daniel was in the right place to rebound a missed shot and get the putback to make it 52-50 with 8 seconds left.
On the ensuing in-bounds, Henderson County’s Atylia Green took the pass and drove the length of the floor, laying it in just ahead of the horn to send the game to overtime.
But the overtime was all Christian County as the Lady Colonels outscored Henderson 11-0 in the extra period sending the fans and players into celebration mode.
Anaysia Bagwell finished the night with 29 points to lead Christian County. A big factor in the game was that Bagwell was able to stay in the game after getting her fourth foul early in the 4th quarter. Lazarie Daniel hit for 17, while NeVaeh Day added 13 and was a force on both the glass and on the defensive end. Day ended up with 13 rebounds and Daniel had 10.
Allyson Rideout was Henderson County’s leading scorer with 16 points. Adalyn Gish was the other player to reach double figures with 10 points.
Christian County overcame a cold night at the line as they shot 10 of 26 at the free throw line.
