After a pair of tough three-point losses away from home to start the season, the Christian County Colonels got one to go their way Friday night. Behind big nights from Derrell Bateman and Jordan Miles, the Christian County Colonels built a big early lead and rolled on to a 74-60 win at Paducah Tilghman.
The Colonels got rolling out of the gate Friday night. Derrell Bateman and Jasean Riley combined to score 14 points in the first eight minutes as Christian County took a 21-8 lead. The Blue Tornado would spend the rest of the night trying to dig out of that early hole.
Jordan Miles got revved up in the second quarter, scoring 10 of Christian County’s 14 points. Tilghman was only able to trim one point off the Colonel lead as Christian County was up 35-23 going into the break.
Derrell Bateman then had one of those quarters for Christian County after halftime. He scored 11 points in the third and the Colonels were able to extend the lead to 56-35.
Tilghman made a bit of a run in the final quarter, but the deficit was simply too much as the Colonels claimed the 14-point win.
Derrell Bateman finished the night with 28 points. Jordan Miles added 23 for Christian County.
Ahmad Wilkins had 21 to pace Paducah Tilghman, 12 of them coming in the fourth quarter after Christian County had the game well in hand. Sophomore Miles Woodfork finished with 18 for the Blue Tornado.
Christian County goes to 1-2 on the season and now gets ready for a rematch of the 2011 state championship game, which the Colonels won 65-63 in double overtime. The two schools would play that December with Rowan County coming away with a 55-51 win.
