Brylee Butts scored 23 of her game-high 26 points in the first half, and David Brown picked up his first win as Caldwell County head coach as the Lady Tigers blitzed Dawson Springs 65-24 Friday night.

A 26-0 run in the first half — the sixth-longest such run in program history — put Caldwell’s girls in command in the 7th District contest at the CAB gym in Princeton.

That turned a 13-6 ballgame late in the first quarter into a 39-6 lead when Butts nailed a 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining in the first half.

Dawson (1-3 overall, 0-2 district) ended the run when Ashtyn Swatzell banked in a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it 39-9 at the break.

Caldwell (1-3, 1-0) hit the 35-point mercy rule for a running clock midway through the third quarter when a bucket from in close by Jakhia Copeland made it 48-12.

It was 54-22 through three quarters.

Caldwell’s largest lead of the night came with the final 41-point margin.

In addition to Butts’ big game, Caldwell got 13 points and seven rebounds from Nyla Sykes. Copeland just missed double figures with eight.

Kim Hoover had 12 points to pace the Lady Panthers.

The game was the 99th meeting between the two programs. Caldwell has won 12 straight and 27 of the last 28. The Lady Tigers lead all-time 89-10.

Caldwell’s girls will play at home again on Tuesday when they face Hopkinsville.
