Heritage Christian’s Kate St. Martin drilled five three-pointers on the way to a game-high 25 points on Thursday to help the Lady Warriors to a 39-35 victory over visiting Fort Campbell. The Lady Warriors stayed undefeated all-time vs. their 8th-district foes to pick up their first win of the season.
St. Martin scored eight of HCA’s ten first-quarter points, including a pair of threes, but Rosella Rajj and Laticyia Cabrera combined for eight for the Lady Falcons and they led by a bucket after one.
The Lady Warriors opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, but found themselves trailing 22-20 with 1:26 left in the half after back-to-back layups by Fort Campbell’s Rosella Rajj. However, Rachel Robson came through in the clutch with a jumper in the lane to beat the buzzer and send the teams into halftime tied 22-22.
St. Martin knocked down two more three-pointers in the third, with the second coming with :34 left for a 34-29 Lady Warrior advantage. Rajj’s last bucket of the game came on a layup just ahead of the buzzer to pull Fort Campbell to within three points with a quarter to play.
The teams combined for only nine points in the fourth, beginning with a corner three from St. Martin. St. Martin’s layup with 4:43 to play gave HCA its largest lead of the game at 39-32, and the Lady Warriors held on thanks in part to Fort Campbell’s struggles at the free throw line.
Rajj finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds to claim her third-straight double-double for the Lady Falcons. India Price hauled down ten rebounds to go with four points. Fort Campbell missed opportunities at the charity stripe, finishing 9/19.
St. Martin added nine rebounds to her game-high point total, and Robson finished with eight points.
Heritage will look to make it two wins in a row when they host Christian Fellowship on Friday. The Lady Warriors fell 63-22 in the first meeting between the programs last season.
Fort Campbell will head to Cloverport on Saturday looking for its first win of the season. The Lady Falcons swept the Lady Aces a year ago for their only two victories.
