An offensive lull during the middle two quarters was a bit much for the Lyon County Lady Lyons to overcome Saturday. Lyon County mustered just 17 points combined in the second and third quarters as they fell to Strafford High School in the Norm Stewart Classic at the University of Missouri.

The two teams battled to a 14-14 tie through the opening eight minutes of the game. Then, the basket shut the lid for the Lady Lyons over the next 16 minutes.

The Lady Lyons would shoot 33.3 percent in the second quarter and then a frosty cold 6.7 percent in the third as Strafford was able to pull away. Strafford would lead 34-22 at the hald and, after leading by as many as 30, lead 56-31 after three.

Lyon County made a charge in the final quarter, but the deficit was simply too big for the Lady Lyons to pull out a miracle comeback at the home of the Missouri Tigers.

Lexi Holland was the top scorer for Lyon County with 14 points. Courtney Collins finished with 12 points. Trinity Taylor had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Elsie Larson led Strafford with 24 points. Lauren Jones also hit double-figures with 17.

Lyon County shot 34 percent for the game at 18 of 53, including 2 of 14 from behind the arc. Strafford shot only 35 percent from the field overall but was 11-31 from behind the 3-point line.

The Lady Lyons (3-2) are back in Jason White Gym Tuesday night as they host Trigg County in a 5th District contest.
