Kentucky did not need long to secure a commitment from one of its top targets in the transfer portals.

Texas A&M receiver Raymond Cottrell made an official visit to Kentucky this weekend and announced on X (formerly Twitter) Saturday that he was committing to the Cats.

He thanked BBN “for all the support” that helped lead to the 6-3, 210-pound receiver picking UK.

He was a big-time recruit out of Milton, Fla., who had scholarship offers from many of the nation’s best programs. He was a four-star prospect but ranked as a top 250 player in the 2023 recruiting class when he signed with Texas A&M.

Cottrell actually committed to Florida the summer before his high school junior season but changed his mind when coach Dan Mullen’s team hit rock bottom and the coach was fired.

He flipped his commitment to Georgia and then made visits to Georgia, Texas A&M and Miami the summer before his senior season. He flipped to Texas A&M in January.

He put his name into the transfer portal when Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher was fired. He played in only three games — leaving him four years of eligibility — and caught a 13-yard touchdown pass, his only 2023 reception.

Cottrell will give UK another big receiver to go with Dane Key. He ranked so high in his recruiting class because of his route running and ability to make physical catches. He could provide UK with another receiver big and strong enough to beat press coverage that offensive coordinator Liam Coen needs.
