Rebels Drop Road Matchup With Monroe County

In a rematch of last season’s 4th-Region All-A semifinal, the Todd County Central boys’ basketball team came out on the wrong end of a 65-60 score at Monroe County on Saturday to slip to 1-3 on the season.

The Rebels edged Creek Wood, TN on Tuesday for their first win of the season, but trailed 14-11 after the first quarter on Saturday.  Jamison Glass scored six for Todd Central and Hayden Strader added five points, but Brison Nuckols scored seven to lead the Falcons.

Glass and Strader continued to carry the scoring load in the second with a combined 13 points.  However, Monroe County rallied behind a pair of three-pointers from Austen Arnett and five points from Brayden Baxter to outscore the Rebels by eight and lead 32-27 at the halftime break.

Arnett kept the hot hand with two more threes and ten points in the third quarter, with Wade Carnahan chipping in four for the Falcons.  Devin Schutt knocked down two three-pointers for the Rebels, but they faced a seven-point deficit with a quarter to play.

Glass closed with seven points over the final eight minutes to finish with a team-high 22.  Keshawn Moore added five for the Rebels, but Arnett scored seven for a game-high 25 and Nuckols and Branson Williams each scored four to help Monroe County hold on for the win.

Todd Central will host Tennessee’s Jo Byrns on Tuesday before heading to Barren County for the Don Franklin Barren Hoops Classic on December 16.
