Holding the opposition under 50 points seems to be the key for the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team after the Lady Rebels topped hosts Hopkins County Central 54-44 on Friday for their third-straight victory. The Lady Rebels improved to 6-2, with all six wins coming when the other team failed to reach the half-century mark.
Todd Central held the Lady Storm to single digits in each of the first two quarters to lead 30-17 at the halftime break. Alexis Taylor posted nine first-quarter points for the Lady Rebels, and Abby Williams provided the scoring punch in the second with a pair of three-pointers on the way to ten points.
Taylor outscored the Lady Storm on her own with 14 points in the third quarter to give the Lady Rebels a 17-point cushion with a quarter to play. Calajia Mason scored six of her team-high 17 points in the fourth for Hopkins Central, and Tyah White added seven to finish with 13 close the gap to ten at the final horn.
Taylor led all scorers with 25, followed by Williams with 17 for Todd Central.
Hopkins Central will rue its performance at the free throw line after only making nine of 20 attempts.
Todd Central will be back on the court on Monday when Hopkinsville visits Elkton. Hopkins Central slipped to 3-3 and will host Grayson County on Saturday.
