
Caldwell County’s Jaydarius Wilson scored 30 points Thursday night, but Union County used a balanced approach to capture a 74-54 victory.
Cameron Miller had 23 points and nine rebounds while Cale Johnson added 17 points for the homestanding Braves, who also got nine points each from Daishawn Curry and Jaidyn Wilson. Jarren Johnson and Bubba Rapier tallied eight points apiece.
It was Union’s fourth straight win over Caldwell. The Braves have taken six of the last seven matchups.
Caldwell got off to a solid start. Behind 13 points from Wilson, the Tigers forged a 17-15 lead after one quarter. Caldwell held a 25-24 advantage midway through the second period before Union got to halftime with a 38-34 lead. Wilson had 21 points at the break.
But Union (4-2) was able to slow down the Caldwell big man in the second half by sagging in the middle, and the Tigers failed to find much offense.
Caldwell was outscored 36-20 over the final two periods as Union stretched the final margin out to 20 points after leading 51-46 through three quarters.
Union made nine 3-pointers in the win. Meanwhile, Caldwell struggled from long range, making just one of 17 attempts from behind the arc.
Collin Whittington finished with seven points and seven rebounds for Caldwell. Carter Whittington had six points.
Caldwell, now 3-4, has dropped three straight after having won its previous three outings.
The Tigers are now off until hosting the West Kentucky Hoops Classic next Thursday and Friday at the CAB gym. Caldwell will face Heritage Christian Academy of Hopkinsville on the first day of the event before playing the final game Friday night against South Panola, Miss.
