A historic night for Hopkinsville senior Antonio Williams almost yielded a double-digit comeback at Webster County on Saturday, but it was too little too late for the Tigers in a 73-67 loss to the Trojans.

The Tigers slipped to 4-3 with their second straight loss despite 38 points and 18 rebounds for Williams.  In addition, Williams bounced back from an uncharacteristically quiet night in a loss to Christian County on Friday to surpass 1,000 career points.

Just as they did in the loss to the Colonels, the Tigers started slowly on Saturday and trailed 18-8 after the first quarter.  Evan Michalek drilled a pair of three-pointers on the way to nine points for the Trojans to overcome six from Williams.

Williams and DeReion Dudley combined for 16 of Hoptown’s 18 points in the second quarter to help the Tigers trim the margin to 33-26 at the halftime break.

Michalek continued his long-distance assault with three more makes from behind the arc in the third quarter, and the Trojans outscored Hopkinsville 23-14 to lead 56-40 with a quarter left to play.

But Williams caught fire in the fourth with 16 points and the Tigers stormed back to within six.  However, Micah Austin scored nine of his 19 over the final eight minutes to send the Trojans to their second win in a row to improve to 6-1 overall.

Dudley was the only other Tiger in double figures with 20.  Michalek led the Trojans with 24, and Deshawn Murphy finished with 11.
