A 9/22 outing at the free-throw line on Monday proved too much for the Christian County Lady Colonels to overcome in a 48-46 loss to visiting Logan County.
Despite their struggles at the line, the Lady Colonels had three looks at a tying basket in the final seconds but it wouldn’t go down. Christian County slipped to 3-4 with a matchup with Union County coming up on Wednesday at the Marshall County Holiday Classic.
Logan County won for the second-straight time to improve to 5-2, with Ta’Kyiah Mason providing the early scoring on Monday with five first-quarter points. A Lazarie Daniel three-pointer gave Christian County its first lead at 15-14 with 3:53 left in the half, but the Lady Cougars knotted the game at 20-20 on a putback by Aubreanna Evans just ahead of the halftime horn.
Christian County leading scorer Anaysia Bagwell had an uncharacteristically quiet first half but got going with eight points in the third quarter. Bagwell’s baseline jumper made it 28-25 with 3:29 to play in the frame, but Logan County closed on an 11-4 run.
Emily Borders scored nine of her team-high 17 in the fourth, and her three-pointer with just over four minutes left gave the Lady Cougars a six-point advantage. Christian County answered with a 7-2 spurt capped by a bucket in the paint by Daniel to pull to within a point, but the Lady Colonels wouldn’t score again.
Daniel led Christian County with 18 points and six rebounds, followed by Bagwell with 13 points. DaNiya Bradley scored nine and pulled down seven boards, Genesis McGee chipped in eight rebounds, and D’Ebony Anderson finished with seven.
