Led by a strong defensive effort, the University Heights Academy Blazers advanced to the 5th place game in the Gatorade Division of the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. Five Blazers scored in double figures as UHA rolled past Yuma Catholic 80-52 late Wednesday night.

The Blazer offense was rolling too. Just a day after being held to 51 points, UHA scored 40 points in each half on their way to their second win in three games during their trip to the desert.

On the defensive end, the Blazers held Yuma Catholic to just 18 points in the first half as UHA built a 22-point lead that would not be threatened for the rest of the game.

UHA was led by Gavin Grubbs with 21 points. Quinton Quarles finished the night with 13 points. The other double-digit scorers for the Blazers were Elijah Walton with 12, Brisyn Northington with 11, and Tylin George with 10.

University Heights (6-3) will wrap up its trip west playing in the Gatorade Division 5th place game against hometown Durango Thursday afternoon at 3:30 central time.
