Hot Start Fizzles as Caldwell’s Girls Bow to Logan in Hoops Classic

Caldwell County’s girls could not have gotten off to a much better start on Thursday.

Tink Clark buried three 3-pointers out of the gate as the Lady Tigers bolted to a 9-2 lead against Logan County in the 10th annual West Kentucky Hoops Classic at the CAB gym in Princeton.

But the Lady Cougars scored the final nine points of the first period to go up 11-9 and eventually built a 28-15 lead at halftime.

The Russellville school went on to post a 65-37 over Caldwell’s girls in the holiday event.

Emily Borders poured in 25 points to lead Logan. She was 10 of 13 from the field, including three of four from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds and five assists.

The Lady Cougars (6-2) also got 15 Brenley Adler. Reese Welton scored eight points.

Clark topped Caldwell with 13 points. Med Thomas added eight points and KeDarriah Thompson had seven points and five rebounds.

But the Lady Tigers (1-6) were outscored 26-6 over the final 12:01 of the first half after racing out to the early lead.

Logan shot 53.1 percent from the field (26 of 49) while Caldwell hit at just a 28.6 percent clip (12 of 42).

Borders and Clark were named the two Players of the Game in the contest.

It was just the second meeting ever between Caldwell and Logan. The Lady Cougars beat Caldwell 69-58 in the 2015 Hoops Classic.

Both teams will be in action in the event on Friday. Logan County takes on Crittenden County at 11 a.m. while Caldwell faces Rowan County at 12:30 p.m.

  1. Things are not going well with the program at Caldwell. The program is at an all time low? When will they make changes as the girls are not having any fun!
