Marshall’s First-Quarter Surge Buries Lady Colonels (w/PHOTOS)

Thursday’s matchup between Christian County and hosts Marshall County in the Holiday Classic was decided in the first quarter, with the Lady Marshals opening the game with 15 unanswered points on the way to a 73-43 victory.

Laken Schroader scored nine first-quarter points and Skylar Waller and Chevelle Henson combined for ten to deliver the early knockout blow for the Lady Marshalls.  D’Ebony Anderson hit one of two free throws for the Lady Colonels’ first point with nearly four minutes played, and Carliah Hobson scored down low for their only bucket in the first eight minutes.

Anaysia Bagwell scored six of her team-high 16 in the second quarter, but the Lady Colonels trailed 37-13 at the halftime break.

Christian County showed some energy out of the break behind eight third-quarter points from NaVeah Day and six for Lazarie Daniel.  However, Waller tossed in 13 to finish with a game-high 18 for the Lady Marshals and the cushion was 23 points with a quarter to play.

Rylee Teague and Addi Wall combined for 12 in the fourth to help the Lady Marshals push the margin out to 30 points.  Kenzie Terry finished with 13 to join Waller and Schroader in double figures.

Christian County dropped its third straight to slip to 3-6 and will be back in Marshall County on Friday to face Dyersburg, TN.
