It’s been a big week for Christian County’s Derrell Bateman at the FNB Bank Holiday Classic at Marshall County.  After going for 31 points in each of the Colonels’ earlier games, Bateman saved the best for last with 51 points on Friday to send the flu-stricken Colonels to an 86-76 victory over Georgia’s New Faith Christian Academy.

Bateman nearly outscored New Faith Christian on his own with 18 first-quarter points, and the Colonels led 27-19 after one.  Bateman duplicated his first-quarter performance in the second, knocking down three three-pointers to send Christian County to the locker room with a 52-29 advantage.

New Faith Christian’s Jamil Aleem and Dave Johnson combined for ten points in the third, but despite a slow quarter for the Colonels, the Titans couldn’t make a real dent in the margin.

New Faith Christian entered the contest with a 12-2 record, and the Titans showed some firepower with a 34-point fourth quarter.  Aleem scored 13 to finish with a team-high 22, Eric Smith added nine, and Johnson chipped in seven on the way to 17 points.

However, while the Colonels were outscored by 11 over the final eight minutes, Bateman closed his night with ten points, and Ja’Sean Riley scored five to seal the victory.

Riley and Theo Quarles joined Bateman in double figures with 11 points each.  Prince Northington II returned from a two-game absence to add six points for the Colonels.
