
The Hopkinsville Tigers will take a 5-5 record to Louisville this week as they make a third straight appearance at the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern High School.
The Tigers will play Southern Wednesday night at 6:00 in the final game of the first round of the eight-team event. Hoptown is in the same bracket as Murray (8-4) and Oldham County (6-4).
Antonio Williams leads the Tigers in scoring (26.7) and rebounding (15.0) while shooting 69% from the field.
DeReion Dudley joins Williams in double figures at 16.9 points a game.
Southern High is 4-6 and brings a four-game losing streak into the event. The Trojans, who were 10-21 a year ago, are led by Johnce Minor’s 19.4 points and six rebounds. The Trojans score 62 points a game but give up 72.
A Wednesday night win would have the Tigers playing in the semifinals at 6:00 on Thursday. A loss sends them to the consolation bracket for a 2:00 game.
The upper bracket features host Eastern (6-4) and Paul Laurence Dunbar (4-6) playing Wednesday at noon and Atherton (3-9) playing Elizabethtown (6-2) at 2:00.
Last year, the Tiger dropped two of three games at the event with a win over Atherton moving them into the fifth-place game where they lost to Bardstown 97-72.
