
After winning its division of the prestigious City of Palms Tournament in Florida last week, the Lyon County Lyons will try and claim the title of one of Kentucky’s top holiday tournaments that begins play on Wednesday.
The Lyons will take on Bourbon County in the first round of the 16-team White, Greer, and Maggard Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.
Lyon County is 8-1 after a pair of easy wins in the Sunshine State.
Senior guard Travis Perry is among the state’s leading scorers at 29.1 points a game – one of three Lyons averaging in double figures.
Brady Shoulders is scoring at an 18.4 points per game clip and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Jack Reddick had a triple-double of points, assists, and rebounds in the City of Palms championship. The senior guard is averaging 17 points and seven assists.
Bray Kirk is averaging 9.1 points for the Lyons, who shoot 52% from the field and average 90.6 points a game and find themselves chasing Trigg County’s region record of 90.2 points in 1997. The single-season scoring record is 95.5 by Oneida Baptist in 1983.
Bourbon County began its season with three straight losses but has recovered with seven straight wins. The Colonels average 58 points on offense, give up 52 and are led by Kaden Hilander’s 12.9 points a game.
Bourbon County hasn’t allowed more than 71 points in any of its 10 games to date.
The Lyons will play Bourbon County at 7:30 on Wednesday night.
In their bracket is a 1:30 matchup between Lexington Christian (5-3) and DeSales (8-4).
The four-day event, formerly known as the 5th/3rd Holiday Classic, features seven teams ranked in several statewide top 20 polls.
