If there was any question about whether or not the Lyon County Lyons would have a little ‘holiday hangover’ after a pre-Christmas trip to Florida and then the big visit from the jolly ole man in the red suit, the Lyons answered that, emphatically, with their opening round performance Wednesday in the White, Greer, and Maggard Orthodontics Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.

Five players reached double figures as the Lyons dominated Bourbon County from wire-to-wire on their way to a 97-41 win in their opening-round game.

This one was never close. Lyon County came roaring out of the gate to take a 31-11 lead after the opening quarter. The Lyons, who shot 67.5 percent in the opening half, kept the pedal pressed firmly down in the second quarter. The Lyons outscored the Colonels 29-8 to go to halftime with a 60-19 lead and a running clock for the rest of the night.

The Lyons cooled down, just a little in the second half, shooting ‘just’ 57.1 percent, but this one had long been decided. The Lyon County lead was 80-35 when the third quarter ended. From there it was just a matter of what the final score would be.

Travis Perry paced the Lyons with 28 points, including 4 of 8 from behind the 3-point line. Brady Shoulders added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Isaad Defew had one of his best nights of the season with 13 points. Carson Collins and Jack Reddick added 11 points each.

Kaden Hilander was the only Colonel to reach double figures with 16 points.

Assists and turnovers were big factors in the contest. Lyon County forced 20 Bourbon County turnovers while committing just 9 of their own. The Lyons also had 26 assists to just nine for the Colonels.

Lyon County improves to 9-1 with its 6th straight win. Up next for the Lyons is a Thursday battle with DeSales in the tournament quarterfinals. The Colts advanced with a win over Lexington Christian.
