
The Trigg County Wildcats opened play at the Rhea County Christmas Classic in Tennessee Wednesday with a 69-46 over the Ooltewah Owls.
The Wildcats turned a close game at the start of the second quarter into a 42-24 halftime lead.
Landon Stewart scored all eight of his points in the second quarter, while Jhaden Vaughn got Trigg off to a solid start with a 10-point first quarter. He added eight more points in the second frame and finished with a game-high 20 points.
Trigg County got a good balance in the scoring column as nine Wildcats scored.
Davaree Gude added 12 points, and Khamani Bush scored seven points.
The Wildcats continued to show an improved effort at the free throw line with a 12 for 18 showing.
Trigg County will play tournament host Rhea County (17-2) in Thursday night’s semifinals.
