It was not their easiest win of the season by any means, but still another impressive step forward for the Lyon County Lyons Thursday night in the White, Greer, and Maggard Orthodontics Holiday Classic. While DeSales did its best to keep Travis Perry from lighting up the scoreboard, the Colts found out what many teams have discovered over the past few seasons, that being that the Lyons have a couple of other big guns that can light it up too.
Perry, along with the other ‘Three Amigos’, Jack Reddick and Brady Shoulders who had a monster night for the Lyons, all hit for 20 points or more as the Lyons fended off DeSales 82-69 to advance to the championship bracket semifinals.
DeSales stung the Lyons early with an 8-2 run to open the game. But Lyon County came right back and would end up leading 22-17 after the first quarter.
The Lyon County lead would grow to 39-30 at the break. The Lyons hit 53.3 percent in the opening half, including 5 of 11 from behind the 3-point line.
Lyon County continued their solid shooting effort in the second half. The Lyons outscored the Colts 20-16 in the third quarter to push the lead to 59-46 going into the final quarter.
The Lyons would lead by as many as 16 points coming down the stretch of the game before settling in for the 13-point victory.
For the second half, Lyon County hit 50 percent from the field, giving them 51.7 percent for the game. Behind the arc, the Lyons finished the game 9 of 24. Lyon County also won the rebounding battle 35-29.
Brady Shoulders was at the top of the scoring column for Lyon County, finishing with 27 points. He also had a big night on the boards with 16 rebounds. Shoulders just missed a triple-double as he picked up seven assists.
Travis Perry, after a bit of a slow start, got rolling late and finished with 24 points. He was 4 of 10 from behind the 3-point line. He also had 7 assists. Jack Reddick hit for 20 points and four assists.
DeSales was paced by Damone King with 22 points. Logan Tharp added 20 for the Colts.
With the win, the Lyons improve to 10-1 on the season and advance to the championship bracket semifinals Friday night at 8:30 Eastern time.
