A good start defensively Thursday helped spark the Todd County Central Rebels to their third straight win. The Rebels limited Montgomery Central to just eight first-half baskets as Todd County Central picked up the 57-46 win in their first game in the Stewart County Christmas Classic.
The Todd Central defense gave up just four field goals in the first quarter as the Rebels built an 18-8 lead. Jamison Glass came out giving the Rebels a big boost early with nine points in the first eight minutes of the game.
The Rebel defense continued to limit Montgomery Central in the second quarter, allowing the Indians just four field goals again as Todd County Central nudged the lead out to 28-16 at the break.
Hayden Strader came out of the locker room for the Rebels and caught fire in the third quarter. Strader put up nine points in the third as the Rebels pushed the lead out to 46-28.
Montgomery Central bit off a chunk of the lead in the final quarter but by that time the deficit had gotten a bit too big as the Rebels held on for the 11-point win.
Jamison Glass, who entered the week as the state’s leading scorer, led the Rebels with 26 points. Hayden Strader added 14. Keshawn Moore also hit double figures with 11.
Todd County Central (6-5) will take on McEwen High School Friday morning at 10:30.
