Trigg County found itself in unfamiliar territory on Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic.
The Lady Wildcats saw a 14-point lead against St. Mary whittled to one point late in the third quarter. However, Trigg County gained control of the game with a 12-2 fourth-quarter run, defeating the Lady Vikings 56-44.
The fifth-place finish is Trigg County’s best in three appearances in the Murray tournament.
Eighth-grader AJ Navarro scored 10 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter as Trigg County hit 7 of 12 shots in the final quarter and hit 4 of 5 free throws.
Reese Bush hit a driving shot at the end of the third quarter to give the Lady Wildcats a 37-34 lead and added four more points in the final frame. She finished with 10 points and three rebounds.
Evonna McGee scored 10 points and added seven rebounds. The Lady Wildcat senior was named to the All-Tournament team.
In addition to Navarro’s 19 points, she pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and had three steals.
Trigg County shot a season-best 50% from the field (22/44) and outrebounded St. Mary 34-14.
St. Mary hit 9 of 21 three-pointers in a Friday loss to Todd County Central. They were just 1 of 13 on Saturday.
Mason Clements led the Lady Vikings with 15 points.
Trigg County has won four straight games against St. Mary and leads the all-time series 17-8.
The Lady Wildcats will host Calloway County Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Class 2A Sectionals at Wildcat Gym.
