Quick Start Carries Christian County Past Owensboro Knights

After a tough loss to Owensboro Catholic Friday, the Christian County Colonels will head into the New Year on a positive note. The Colonels opened fast Saturday and rolled their way to a 64-29 win over the Owensboro Knights on the second day of the Southwire Holiday Classic at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Derrell Bateman lit it up for 19 points in the first quarter as the Colonels jumped out to a 27-7 lead.

The Colonel offense kept rolling in the second quarter. Christian County outscored the Knights 18-10 to run the lead out to 45-17 at the half.

Christian County’s defense limited the Owensboro Knights to just seven points again in the third quarter as the lead continued to grow, moving out to 61-23 heading into the fourth.

With the running clock in play, neither team added much more to their totals in the final eight minutes of the game.

Derrell Bateman led the Colonels with 25 points. Kam Williams was the other Christian County player to hit double figures with 10.

The Knights were led by Charlie Fogle, who finished with 10 points.

Christian County (6-6) will be back in action Friday when the Colonels host Male in the City of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic.
