Six Top-6 Finishes as Caldwell Takes 5th at Apollo

Caldwell County’s first-year girls’ wrestling program turned in another strong showing Saturday at Apollo’s Lady Eagles Invitational in Owensboro.

The Lady Tigers had six top-six finishes and placed fifth in the team standings out of 18 schools in the event.

Virginia Stewart was runner-up in the 235-pound class for Caldwell. She won her first two matches by pin — in 26 seconds and 1:30 — to get to the finals but was then pinned in the championship match.

Sophie Parrish took third at 100. She dropped a 7-2 decision in the semifinals but came back to win by pin in the third-place match at 1:49.

T.J. Goodwin placed fourth at 107. She won her first match with a quick pin in 38 seconds, but dropped her next two matches, including an 8-1 decision in the third-place match.

Emma Ward was fifth at 185. After being pinned in her opener, Ward came back to win her next two matches by pin — in 24 seconds in the consolation semifinals and in 47 seconds in the fifth-place match.

Alyvia Barnwell was sixth at 120. She won by pin in the consolation semifinals but was then pinned in the fifth-place match.

Rylie Bruce finished sixth at 132. Bruce won her consolation semifinal match by pin but was then pinned in the fifth-place match.

Caldwell’s 62 points were two better than McCracken County for fifth.

Union County won the team title with 133 points. Henderson County was second at 110, followed by Apollo (86) and Boyle County (79).

The Lady Tigers will return to Owensboro next Saturday, Jan. 6, to compete in the Daviess County Invitational.
