Trigg County senior Jhaden Vaughn scored 23 points in Thursday’s 68-58 loss to Webster County in the semifinals of the Class 2A Sectional semifinal at Wildcat Gym.

His first bucket of the second half was the 1,500th of his career, and he joined six other Wildcats in the 1,500-point club.

Vaughn ended the night with 1,512 points. In the past month, he has slipped past Joe Graham (1,441) and Eddie Radford (1,461), the school’s all-time leading scorer from 1970 to 1997.

Now 7th on Trigg’s all-time scoring list, Vaughn immediately trails Anthony Mayes (1,541) and Chris Sparks (1,821). Deonquez Nance is the school’s all-time scoring leader with 1,989 points.

Last month, Vaughn pulled down his 1,000th career rebound for Trigg County, joining an elite club. However, the membership list in this club is a little murky.

Rebounding stats at Trigg County are unavailable before 1960 because the high school burned in 1960, including the gym and its contents such as state books. It didn’t matter much anyway because Trigg’s stat books didn’t begin to log rebounds until 1969.

So, it’s unclear who Trigg’s all-time leading rebounder is. Some say Buddy Sivills, who averaged over 12 rebounds his senior season and was a three-year starter in the early 1960s.

Lennus Redd has Trigg’s single-season rebounding record of 445 set in 1970. He averaged 13.9 boards that season. Vaughn would need to average 13 rebounds a game and Trigg advance to the semifinals of the region tournament (34 games) to set that mark. Vaughn entered Thursday averaging 11 rebounds a game.

Regardless, there are no more than five players and maybe no more than three who scored 1,000 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds for Trigg County. And Vaughn is the first Wildcat to score 1,500 career points and pull down 1,500 career rebounds.

In the meantime, here is Jhaden’s 1,500th point that earned him this Max’s Moment.
