A big second quarter was the difference Thursday night as Lyon County’s girls defeated Livingston Central for the second time this season.
The Lady Lyons used a 25-7 advantage in the second period to seize the upper hand after the two teams slogged to a 5-5 tie after 8 minutes.
But Lyon’s 1-2-1-1 full-court defense took its toll on the Lady Cardinals the rest of the first half.
Lexi Holland scored 13 of her 15 points in the second stanza for the Lady Lyons, who went on to capture a 53-38 triumph at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.
It’s the fourth straight win overall for Lyon, which is now 10-4 this season and 3-1 in district play.
Piper Cotham had 17 points to top the Lyon scoresheet. Trinity Taylor scored eight of her 11 points in the second period.
Lyon led 30-12 at halftime and 41-24 through three quarters.
However, Livingston (4-4, 2-2) outscored Lyon 26-23 in the second half and 31-28 in the first, third and fourth periods combined.
Emersyn Ramage led the Lady Cardinals with 15 points. Victoria Joiner added 11.
The two teams will meet again on Monday in Eddyville in a first round game in the 2nd Region All A Classic.
Before that, Livingston will host Murray Friday night while Lyon will host Daviess County Saturday afternoon.
