The wait for a decision by the NCAA on the eligibility of 7-2 Croatian Zvonimir Ivišić continues to drag out and that has prompted some Kentucky basketball fans to raise money for a billboard encouraging the NCAA to “Free Big Z.”
The idea originated from the “Rupp To No Good Podcast” and hopes to raise $3,600 to place the billboard in easy view of the NCAA Eligibility Center in Indianapolis.
Kentucky opens SEC play this afternoon at Florida and Ivisic has rejoined the team after being gone home for about a week that coach John Calipari totally endorsed.
Teammates are glad to have Ivisic back as he awaits a ruling from the NCAA.
“He can help us a lot. He’s not just big but he is tremendously skilled,” Tre Mitchell said Friday. “He is just another weapon out there. With the depth we have that is another dude opponents have to worry about .
“It’s definitely nice to have him in the gym — have his personality back around.”
Calipari stressed on his weekly radio show how much Ivisic wanted to be back at Kentucky with his teammates, something Mitchell says is obvious.
“Definitely nice to have some more height out there on the court. Another skilled player. A guy that can do a little bit of everything. He’s getting back acclimated to everything we’re doing,” Mitchell said.
“But they just need to free my guy, man. They just need to let him loose.”
