Tim Haworth’s return to Hopkinsville was a victorious one as his Male Bulldog team defeated Christian County 79-49 in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
Haworth was 200-58 in eight seasons as head coach of Hopkinsville High School from 2010-18 and left as the school’s second-winningest coach. The Tigers won five district and five region titles under Haworth, including four straight from 2012 to 2015.
His Male team resembled his successful Tiger teams on Friday night, forcing 24 Christian County turnovers and knocking down ten 3-pointers.
The Bulldogs used a 17-3 run toward the end of the second quarter to turn a 22-11 lead into a 39-14 advantage inside the final minute. Kam Williams drilled a 3-pointer ahead of the halftime horn for the Colonels to end the run.
Jordan Miles returned from a six-game absence due to an ankle injury and scored seven of his nine points in the third quarter. He also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Darrell Bateman scored 17 points and Theo Quarles added 11 points for the Colonels.
Cole Edelen, who entered the game hitting 51 percent from 3-point range, hit four more on Friday and led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Eighth-grader Jordan Mitchell scored 10 points and added three rebounds.
