Coming into Friday’s opener of the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic, Marshall County had beaten the Christian County Lady Colonels in nine of the previous 10 meetings.

One of those losses came on December 21 when the Lady Marshals handed Christian County a 30-point loss in Draffenville.

The Lady Colonels turned the tables at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium for a 53-44 win – Christian County’s first over Marshall County since 2015.

It was a big night for Navaeh Day. The Lady Colonel junior scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Christian County held a 32-26 advantage on the glass.

After a scoreless three-minute start to the game, Christian County jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never trailed.

Marshall County was playing without point guard and leading scorer Skylar Waller for a third straight game. Waller scored 18 points in Marshall County’s win over the Lady Colonels last month and averages 15 points a game.

The Lady Marshals turned the ball over seven times in the opening quarter as Christian County pushed its lead to 18-7 by the end of the first eight minutes.

Back-to-back buckets by Anaysia Bagwell gave Christian County its biggest first-half lead at 32-18.

The Lady Marshals got strong play from their bench. Sophomore Addi Wall scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter to keep Marshall in the game. Another sophomore, Harli English, also scored 11 points.

Day scored all ten of Christian County’s third-quarter points, including a putback with six seconds left to give the Lady Colonels an 11-point lead.

English hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and helped bring the Lady Marshals to within 51-44.

Freshman Kenzlee Terry led Marshall County with 15 points, four points, and three assists.

Bagwell joined Day in double figures for Christian County with 16 points. She hit 8 of 10 free throws and added five rebounds and five assists.

Christian County will host Greenwood on Tuesday at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
